For many years, Marquette University has sponsored a Service Learning Program, allowing students to enhance their studies through service in the Milwaukee area. Now students can continue Service Learning in a semester-long, international opportunity in Cape Town, South Africa. This distinct experience allows for the following possibilities:
- Integrate rigorous academic studies with immersion in another culture
- Gain insight into the leadership paradigms and qualities needed for a more peaceful world
- Become a catalyst for positive change.
This international opportunity combines study at the Desmond Tutu Peace Centre and the University of Western Cape with service at community-based organizations such as Child Welfare Services, Bush Radio, Amy Biehl Foundation, Saartjie Baartman Center for Women and Children, and many others.
This blog will be the experiences, thoughts and reflections of Marquette students studying abroad in this program.
